NATIONS MARCHING INTO THE FUTURE

Nations Marching into the Future continues to drive innovation and development of new content and experiences for our student body, staff and parents alike. We strive every day to shape well rounded students who, in addition to educational goals, strive to improve the lives of their peers and to work towards unity and equality of the sexes. We know the future is bright and we encourage all our current and future students to climb aboard for the next phase of this remarkable school’s adventures. We are truly Marching to the Future.

Dear Friends,

When School of the Nations opened its doors in 1996 the vision of the founders, Brian and Pamela O’Toole, was to create a school of excellence in academics, the arts and sports, with service to the wider community at the very core of activities, where unity was celebrated, and where children would thrive in an atmosphere of cooperation and unity. For over 28 years Nations has maintained and fostered that vision ensuring a firm foundation is laid in the early years and graduates are well qualified and trained for the world of work.

Over the years under the dynamic leadership of Mrs. Christine Brisport, a founding administrator, and now our diverse and talented Senior Management Team and CEO Dr. Dexter Philiips, Nations has grown, developed, matured and flourished, facing challenges and grasping opportunities as they arise.

Our student body has grown to over 1400 students ranging in ages from 2 years to 17 in our K – 12 classes. Our students, parents, staff and administrators work together to maintain a school of true excellence where students are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunities that exist and demonstrate what excellence looks like in their work, conduct and relationships with others.

The vision at School of the Nations is to help students develop their academic abilities, skills, and talents to the highest standard of excellence possible; and to foster a life-long love of learning. Secondly, and equally as important, is to help students from a young age, to develop a character that is morally and spiritually sound, through a study of virtues or positive qualities of character and citizenship and how these can be reflected in words and deeds.

The mission of School of the Nations is to provide an academic curriculum that gives students the optimal learning environment geared to help them develop their full potential. We believe that school is a place where character can and should be developed. Students achieve success in all aspects of human relations through our clear moral framework consisting of a virtues programme and the study and application of moral capabilities. These capabilities include: thinking systematically in search of solutions and encouraging others and bringing happiness to their hearts. We help self-esteem grow in an environment where self-discipline, sound judgment and personal transformation are cultivated.

Guyana’s growing Oil and Gas economy has added impetus to our curriculum innovation seeing the addition of Coding and Robotics across the school and the inclusion of additional international certification to the IGCSE and A-Levels offered through the University of Cambridge, to include the kidsMBA (ABE UK) and courses in Logistics from the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT).

Exciting opportunities exist in the field of service in our award-winning Interact Club and newly formed EarlyAct Club as well as events planned during the year including our “Show you Care” Valentine’s Gift sharing to homes for senior citizens.

This year we are moving towards COGNIA Accreditation and are currently engaged in the rigorous process of self-study for the candidacy review which upon a successful outcome will move us towards accreditation engagement.

Our dynamic Parent Teacher Association works closely with staff and the administration to support school activities and be an active channel between parents and school staff. We welcome their recent re-establishment.

We look forward to the exciting vistas that surely await Guyana as we step boldly into our bright future as a country and the equally illuminating advances we are making as a school.

Pam and Brian O’Toole
