Curriculum

Grades 1-6

School of the Nations is built on the philosophy that all children can and will learn in a fun and engaging environment.

Primary School covers the six years from Grade One to Grade Six. The Ministry of Education’s National Grade Two, Four and Six Assessments are offered. We also incorporate the University of Cambridge education experience in ICT and Global Perspectives. Pupils have the option of earning a Cambridge Certificate in ICT Starters. Chess and Robotics are also offered in all classes. These two subjects foster students’ critical thinking and reasoning skills. Nursery and Primary parents receive a list of topics that are to be covered in the major subject areas at the beginning of each term along with a calendar of important dates. In the final term of Grade 6 pupils are exposed to ABE’s KidsMBA (https://www.abeuk.com/kidsMBA) and the essential skills of entrepreneurship are taught, practiced and integrated into the child’s life setting a path for success in Secondary and life.

Service

We live our motto through Service. We teach our learners to be of service to those in need and our community as each act of service has a positive impact in persons’ lives. As a school we have one major community project per year and smaller class projects per term.daily story sessions, become aware of print and will develop pre-writing skills.

Our Golden Standards for Education Are Simple and Powerful:

  • Relationships are positive – when all are valued and shown respect.

  • The curriculum is innovative, stimulating, motivating and challenging.

  • There is a shared understanding of learning.

  • There is excellent teamwork and communication.

  • Everyone knows that they can achieve success.

  • We celebrate diversity.

We hope that by achieving these Golden Standards, children will become self-motivated, life-long learners, who understand how to learn, and have a range of strategies to support their learning. We believe that every member of our community is a learner, and that adults can model learning behaviours for children.

Building Learning Power

We try to develop the four R’s of children’s learning:

  • Resilience – being able to lock on to learning (perseverance, managing distractions, noticing and absorption).
  • Resourcefulness – being able to learn in different ways (questioning, making links, reasoning and imagining).
  • Reflectiveness – being able to become more strategic about learning (planning, distilling and revising).
  • Reciprocity – being able to learn alone and with others (imitation, interdependence, empathy and listening, collaboration).

These dispositions help children to increase their learning capacity.

Our Vibrant Curriculum

We believe that learning should be fun!

We achieve high standards of achievement and attainment through a clear focus on teaching skills;in literacy, numeracy, Information Communication Technology (ICT) and across all other subjectareas. We fulfil all National Curriculum requirements that lead to the National Grade Six Assessment. However, we enhance our programme with Robotics, Chess, Spanish, Music, Art, Library and Physical Education. In Grade 6 we offer the kids MBA

Behaviour

Our actions speak to who we are as people and we strive to develop a moral compass in our pupilsand school community to show the influence of humanity in action. These are our ‘Golden Rules’ ofbehavior for all members of our community. We expect all children to keep the ‘Golden Rules’:

  • Do be gentle – don’t hurt anyone.

  • Do be kind – don’t hurt others’ feelings.

  • Do be honest – don’t cover up the truth.

  • Do work hard – don’t waste time.

  • Do play co-operatively – don’t spoil other people’s games.

  • Do look after property – don’t waste or damage things.

  • Do listen to people – don’t interrupt.

These rules are simple enough for all the children to understand. There will be frequent reminders of the rules in school assemblies, during class discussions and on posters throughout the school. By maintaining the rules, all members of the school community will feel happy, valued and secure.
